These are the steps for you to take:
· STAGE I
1. Look at the contents of the Directory and decide in which category your invention would fit best. Note the name and number.
In Registration inventors fill in your registration form and submit it.
2. If you have not yet applied for a patent, then only the first part, the short form applies. In completing the form follow the instructions on the form, check, and submit the form and your payment. For details of how to make payment click on Fees. Normally within three working days you will receive your registration number and password. This will enable you to inspect your display and make minor corrections before it enters the Directory.
3. If you have applied for your patent, then complete the full form following the instructions on the form. Prepare and submit illustrations as soon as possible. For submission of illustrations see Illustrations. For details of how to make payment click on Fees. Normally within three working days you will receive your registration number and password. This will enable you to inspect your display and make minor corrections before it is published. Your page will not enter the Directory until your illustrations are in place. Normally within five working days you will be able to inspect your complete display by entering the DIRECTORY. For details about making a professional display and on how to make corrections or updates to your display, see below.
4. How to submit your illustrations. See Illustrations.
5. To make corrections or update your display please e-mail the administrator: a fee may be charged depending on the work involved.
6. Tips on how to make a professional display. Draft your page
with care, choose those photographs and /or drawings that are easily
followed. They will be of a reduced size when your whole page is
printed, and those searching the site will not linger over a blurred
or obscure presentation. A photograph may be of a prototype or a
model, but for either, good lighting, uncluttered background and
a measure to give scale are important. Review your draft again before
you submit it to see whether it needs amendment. In particular check
the following:
- Is it factual? (avoid exaggeration)
- Is it clear what it is? (you know but will a stranger to your
idea understand?)
- Ensure that you do not divulge your 'claims' before they have
been added to your patent.
- Avoid anything - names or symbols - that even resemble trademarks
or trade names (being sued for breach of rights by the existing
user or registered owner could follow).
If you have a short page because you have yet to apply for a patent,
then be careful to give no description whatever of your invention
on any part of your short page. Concentrate on your expertise and
the help you would welcome from a viewer.
